Postpartum Comfort: The Benefits of SRC Shorts

Postpartum Comfort: The Benefits of SRC Shorts - Invigorate Health and Performance

Bringing a new life into the world is an incredible experience. But it also comes with its own set of challenges, especially when it comes to postpartum recovery.

As a new mum, your body goes through a lot of changes physically, mentally and hormonally. Physically we have your back, and this is where our physiotherapists suggest SRC shorts.

In this blog, we will explore the benefits of the use of SRC in your postpartum recovery and how they can support your body as it heals and adjusts to life following the birth of your little one.

So what are these shorts we speak of?

SRC Recovery Shorts are designed by an obstetrician and are endorsed by the Australian Physiotherapy Association. They were designed to provide gentle and continuous compression to the pelvic region, activating muscles, promoting core stability, and reducing swelling and muscle fatigue. They sit from mid thigh and compress all the way to under your rib cage (although there are full and to the knee lengths too) and have specifically designed sections to support your recovering body. By doing this, the recovery shorts allow you to recover faster and have more pain-free mobility in your post-partum period.

Before SRC shorts were available, there were only a few other – not very good – options to help with abdominal support postpartum. These were tubigrip (which rolled terribly and basically fell apart) or belly bands (which basically took two people to get you into and hold you so rigid you can’t breathe). I don’t know about you, but neither of these options tickle my fancy.

So, why do our physiotherapists suggest the SRC recovery shorts?

1: They have no adjustable buttons, velcro or zips, they are like a second skin. You just wiggle them on and off you go! There’s no need to constantly adjust while you’re wearing them because they are made to stay in place and hold you in all the places you need it after growing a tiny human.

2: They have patented Anatomical Support Panels (ASP) to give you targeted compression for helping with multiple conditions such as; c-section wounds, perineal trauma, episiotomy wounds, abdominal muscle separation and lower back pain. Personally, I find these shorts very helpful for those who have abdominal muscle separation and have seen some better and faster results because of them.

3: They provide you with increased stability and allow you to move more freely post-delivery – making lifting, feeding, bathing and caring for your baby much easier/ They do this by providing constant, yet gentle compression, this encourages the activation of muscles surrounding your core.

4: Whether you are at home or out and about, your SRC shorts are able to be discreetly under your clothing or on their own. They just look like regular tights. No one else knows the difference.

If you are interested in checking out our SRC range click here, we have also provided you the sizing options below.

Tips for measuring: Do not take your own measurement. Be measured in your underwear only. Stand with your heels together. Tape measure must be straight and wrapping around your hips, pubic bone and bottom and the fullest part. The tape should touch your body at all points but should not be pulled tight.

We believe SRC shorts should be an essential part of your postpartum recovery toolkit and even part of your hospital bag! They offer a significant amount of support as your body adjusts to life after childbirth by providing gentle compression, targeted muscle support and overall convenience. If you are looking for a comfortable and support for your postpartum journey, we suggest looking no further than SRC.

Note: For even better results, we suggest you have a six week check with our Women’s Health Physiotherapists so we are able to help you in a more individualised plan to help you recover from pregnancy and the demands of childbirth.
